Problem with my Dad's Audi 90 quattro 20v 1990. The headlights don't work, the side light work and the full beam works. The fuses are fine and so are the bulbs. I replaced the light stalk switch about 2 years ago as it was doing the same thing. Any ideas? could it be the switch again? it is a genuine VAG switch from the dealer.

Ah, this one ;D
I had a problem with my wiper switch when I first got the car. I managed to dismantle the switch unit, clean it all up and hey presto ;D
Did the light switch whilst I was in there......if I remember correctly I didn't have much choice as I had to dismantle both bits together.
Genuine VAG switch shouldn't fail that quick though >:(

I had the same problem with the lights on my previous Audi 90.
After checking the bulbs, wiring, fuses, etc which were OK.
I got a replaement from the scrap yard and never had any problems.

Cheers guys. Rich , isn't the light switch combined with the indicators? thats how i remember it. I'm gonna test it when i get a chance, how does this sound :-
Connect ohmmeter to pin 3(connection to ignition switch) and pin 13(connection to lights) on the back of switch. If the switch is working properly then it should read ---- when the switch is set to off and 0 when the light switch is on.
Will this test work? i'm not brilliant with electrics! :D

I got them sorted today, it turned out to be a dodgy contact on the wiring plug going into the switch. No new parts needed ;D

Good to see someone posting the fix, a lot of good advice given out with few people bothering to reply :(
Think the archive would be more usefull if the fix was posted.
I've had one of those days.
Steve.
