Title: Under bonnet sound proofing.

My 8v sounds quite tappety, new to the scene so got nothing to compare it against. Does the under bonnet sound proofing reduce this? Seen it on ebay quite a few times now.

To be fair they do tap when cold but shouldn't  be excessive, do a search on here for noisy tappets and do an oil flush, fit a genuine VW oil filter (from dealers) and fill her back up with Synta Silver might just cure it, Bonnet soundproofing will take the noise away but not the problem :D

I think theres a few threads on here where people have fitted the under bonnet sound proofing, it seems as though results vary but the ones I've read about who fitted it weren't that impressed by the difference it made. Your better off investigating the tapping noise rather than attempting to block it out  :wink:

It's at youngest a 15 year old car, it won't be quiet.

i took my underbonnet soundproofing off cos it was a bit flappy and got in the way of some under bonnet add ons. tbh it hasnt made much if any difference. i have used mine to replace skanky wet sound proofing under my passenger seat as i didnt have anything else lol

Ive recently fitted this sound proofing. It rubs against the throttle cable :angry:

Does sound a tiny bit quieter but nothing to brag about.

yeah mine came with it from the factory and it rubs against all sorts of underbonnet bits, the little ball bit on top of the throttle body where the accelerator cable goes in kept catching which was a bit brown pant stylee..........

.........only other thing i can think that it would do is insulate the bonnet to prevent paintwork getting damage due to continous exposure to heat from the engine

..........and it keeps the heat in too which probably isn't exactly the best thing! I don't think it made much difference fitting it to my 8v Gti but having gone to the trouble to get it and fit it I left it on anyway.
