Title: replacing headlight bulbs - H4's
Post by: Omar on 09 December 2003, 08:48
....Ive just bought a pair of H4 bulbs, thought I could just do a direct swap, but when I had a quick look at the originals yesterday, they look quite alot different.

The little bulbs were easy enough to replace in a lunch time, but I thought it best to leave the main bulb for the weekend.

Has anyone got any tips or advice before I start??

I'm quite sure the H4's are the right size?? -  '95 Mrk3 16v

cheers all  :)

Sorry mate they are not H4's as far as i know! Mk4 Golf has H4's.

Mk3 GTI has twin head lights so you have 2 bulbs, one for main beam, one for dipped, in both lights. 4 bulbs in total. They are all H1 bulbs. Side lights are Wedge bulbs and fogs are H3's.

I had problems finding out when i changed my bulbs but my car is a 98/R 8 valve GTI. Non GTI models and older GTI's may be different!

Hope this helps let me know how you get on.

As i said originally geezer, i think you got the wrong bulbs. Either they fit or they won't!
