Title: Okay peeps !!!..
Post by: Hammy on 08 December 2003, 22:59
Sorry for the delay in posting recently.. Had a wipeout on the PC and had to reload XP and all the gubbins !!

Just had some fun on the way home from work this evening with a Ford Focus and we decided to boot it on the flat and see what gave !!

Well what gave was my bloody car going off the end of the speedo at 120mph and this focus still sat up my ARS? !!!

what gives peeps ? .. I really wasn't expecting the old girl to go all the way to the end but she went past the end stop and kept going !!.. Gawd knows what the speed was in the end, but when the focus came past me after we got held up in traffic he gave me a big thumbs up and a respectable smile...

Made my day I can tell ya in respect to cost differences in the two cars :)

So folks.. How come I have a car with what I believe to be original speedo that goes off the end and still pulling ?

Hints would be appreciated :)

Ta

Paul :)

Some 8V Mk2's like mine for example, have speedo's that go upto 140MPH, I don't know why VW made 2 different types of clocks but they did ???

mine has 140mph speedo in an 8v and I've had it reading 130mph and then it bounced off the limiter ;D

The 20V should do 157mph tops.......mine certainly got to 150 indicated and felt like it had a little more to offer.......but that is stupidely quick on the M3.........too many ruts and always the chance a deer or something might run out.........wipeout, I think I must be getting old :-\

Check this, I was cruising at around 120/125 on a perfectly clear motorway when out of nowhere I see a car blitzing towards me from behind in my lane (middle) flashing their headlights.  Assuming they were police, I slowed down till i realised they weren't pigs, so I kept my speed to around 100 till he got to me.

So he's up my a$$ at 100 flashing his headlights blinding my mirrors.  I thought why don't he just overtake me and piss off?  He wanted to play so he stayed with me practically kissing my exhaust pipes all the way to 130 (which I did very fast), then went to the right lane to overtake, and this modded Scooby 22b came beside me for a sec to smile.  Then he floored it from 130 and went into warp speed, dissapeared into the horizon ahead. WICKED!!!

I only got 120 out of my other 8v digi then the coolant temp light started to flash, so I never tried it agen, but no probs came up after.  My other 16v is definately better.  My baby might not b able to catch a 22b, but handling-wise when it comes to oversteer and cornering, me and my car are are simply the best.

bit OT but why would you mod a 22b - its mint to begin with & a future classic/collectors item for sure

I do like those Audi's How much do they go for, r they reliable and quick ?

They are reliable, however when they do go wrong they seem to be pricey.......fortunately doesn't happen very often

You should be able to pick up a good example for around 1K.

Very quick once you hit 4000 rpm, bit slower on pick up to 4k, however chipping and straight through exhaust seems to have improved that a little ;D
