Title: stutter/hesitation in first 2 mins of driving
Post by: ryushi on 22 May 2006, 16:17
MY 1.8T has developed a problem where when the car is started from cold in the first minute or 2 of driving it is very sluggish and struggles
to accellerate, if i apply full throttle in first the car hardly accelerates and is very jerky, after a couple of mins it's all back to normal and when the car is warmed up and engine re-started it is fine too.

I have changed the MAF as I thought that would also cure my problem of high rev gear changes causing flat spots, but it didn't do a thing.

Any ideas?

I think I will be selling the golf soon, there have been no end of problems since I got it.

mines always sluggish/hesitant if i dont warm the car up, i.e drive it from straight from cold, i find if i leave it running for 2-3 mins or so before i drive, i never have a problem

Mine does this too. I also get engine warning light come on which i have been told (by the AA) that it was my lambda sensor. Recently had a service and had the fault cleared but its still hesitant and the engine management light will come back on and stay on for a few days and then go off again.

I think this is standard on the AUM & AUQ engines, just wait for the revs to drop after cold start (ECU software opens the air / throttle mix) - as you say 2 minutes at most, then off you go. No problems.

The engine warning light on after a Service as posted on this topic down the page, is something else though. If you've had a service and paid the Garage - time to go back and ask for an explanation ! Don't mess around, you've paid for the job to be done.
