Title: No Dash illumination!
Post by: mike hayward on 22 May 2006, 15:46

Hi All

I've just bought myself a Golf GTi 16v on an L plate, 3 door, E/W, E/SR, C/L etc etc

the only problem i have is the dash lights themselves dont work, the digital part is light up and dims etc with the dimmer as do the heater controls, but no lights on the clocks.

Today i removed the console and the bulbs are not blown - something more sinister maybe? help please!

only thing i've found a little odd is there is a yellow wire behind the indicator stalk, this has been cut and had female spade terminals fitted :undecided:

Anyone have any idea why? and whats its purpose?

Many thanks in advance

a fat yellow wire normally means power..

arent the bulbs for the bits you want to light up in the back of the cluster?

gave the dash dimmer control a wee tap last night and hey! one of the bulbs came on!

then after a wheile dimmed out so i'm guessing its the dimmer unit, so in the process of replacing it now.

still no idea what that wire does!
