Where are the heat shields in the engine and what do they look like?
I have been told they are a possible source of rattle, which my engine has developed at certain rpm.
-
blade there is a heat sheild just down a bit from the exhaust manifold from the head.

Whitch model of golf do you have?
-
all GTI's have them
mine was removed cause it was a pain in the arse
-
will the heat cause any problems if the sheld is removed?
Exhaust and in the engine sheld.
-
well mine hasnt caused any trouble whatsoever in over a year
-
the reason i knew of one by the exhaust manifold was because i had a rattle and sure enough the sheild was corroded and broke, so off it came. no problems as yet.(a year on)
