help i need to do it, took off my plastic arch cover to find lots of holes rust and part of the arch missing. best way to fix it????
-
this post will probably help me out too.
I cliped the crub infront of my drive and the wheel arch came off >:( proved my car was too low.
Looked under it and it has out of shape rust holes where the pop rivets used to be.
best way to sort this problem out is to grind the rust holes back using a grinder. Get all the rust off then body filler etc etc.
-
My old T plate Mk1 had that problem. I purchased an outer metal arch repair plate for each side. I cut out all the old rusty metal back to good metal, cut the repair plates to shape and welded them in. Then it was a small amount of filling and making good and spraying back up............looked as good as new. Repair plates weren't too expensive either and I'm sure you'll find them available for the Mk2.

I might even have some pics somewhere.........I could try digging them out if you're interested?
-

Ok, finally found the pics.......I took them in 1991 so it took a while to find them.

Sorry mate, wasn't sure if you were still after the pics or not.......too be honest, I'm not sure they'll help you much, but here they are anyway:-
o/s rear arch, cutting out the damage:-

Bit of a jump here.......for some reason missed out the welding on and making good bit. Excuse the use of blue paint, I had a whole tin of it that I used to help find any imperfections. As you can see, decided to repair the fuel filler whilst I was at it:-

cheers for the pics, now i no i should just scrap the car, looks to hard for me to do plus i got the o/s sill to replace too. how much should this little lot cost to do roughly??
anyone???
cheers again rich
-
If you're only going to scrap it then why not give it a go........nothing to lose and possibly lots to gain, if nothing else.........experience.
Before you do though........check over the rest of the car and make sure there is nothing else that would render it all beyond economical repair. Wheel arches and outer sills alone are not a reason to scrap a car, in my opinion.
Sills from Eurocarparts are around ?10
Wheel arch repair plates look to be around a tenner each too.

I remember veng used to be top darts for repair panels, I dont think they exist anymore though.
