Title: Something Missing???
Post by: Megaos on 21 May 2006, 18:02

Picked my GTI up yesterday, absolutely superb, can't wait til it's run in

I'm not sure if there is something missing. In the boot on the left hand side is a strap that looks like it should be holding something. The bottle opener in the centre drinks compartment was missing so I am suspicious.

I've got the bottle opening but do have the strap and nothing fitted in it...  the dealer thought it was for an optional warning triangle or similar?

Did you get your bottle opener sorted?

It'll be interesting to see what the other lads have...

Yea. I knew there should be one there cos my mate got his GTI a couple of months ago. The salesman said it should have been with my manuel, then fetched me one from his office.

Hi guys, about the strap in the boot when my car was delivered there was a copy of the manual in Arabic strapped into it!

But I suspect that it is really for a fire extingusiher. On delivery I had the extinguisher under the passenger seat but it fits perfectly in this strap in the boot.

It is the law here that all new cars have to have an extinguisher.

PS as it is was originally under the front seat i don't have the storage drawer that I suspect you guys have.

Hi.

My first aid kit was strapped into the boot, using the strap. and the fire extinguisher in the plastic tray opposite.

If your first aid kit isnt strapped into the boot where is it??

Not sure about RHD cars but on my LHD gti there is a specific cubby hole in the glove box (at the top), made for the manual, fits perfect.

That makes sense, it's not the law in the UK to carry first aid kit and fire extinguisher.....

Its for the optional warning triangle (bracket at rear) and first aid kit (strap)

Hi Doc.

The VW branded warning triangle fits behind the first aid kit in the strap, there is a small recess in the boot lining for it.

I tried getting the strap to hold the fire extinguisher but its too heavy!.

My fire extinguisher currently lives in the plastic tray on the other side of the boot. Doesn't rattle around or move, but i wouldn't say it was meant to go there, any idea where its proper place is???

Hi Matt,

Its not the law here either, but I'd sooner have them in the boot than not!, non of its expensive stuff. But the fire extinguisher isn't exactly light!.
