Title: Corrado or Golf - Which one should I buy????
Post by: dave_kes on 20 May 2006, 11:15
Hello All!!

I am a new comer to the VW brand and am currently looking at two different cars.  I'm more interested in performance and handling than comfort, any advice from you guys on here would be greatly appreciated.

1) Golf GTI 2.0 16v 1997 (P) - 5 door - This car is standard with about 70k miles.

OR

2) Corrado 2.0 16v 1993(K) - This was an ex-show car with about 10k spent on mods but I've not asked details yet - mileage is about 130k I believe.

Both cars full FSH.

Price is the same for both - around 2500 quid.

Any ideas which way to jump??

Cheers

Dave

I'd go for the raddo over the mk3 every time.

yeah good point, don't bother with anything other than a vr6 or a g60, corrado's are bloody heavy, almost as much as a mk3 but they handle like a mk2....

The heart says the Corrado  , but the head says the Golf  - A judgement based mostly on the mileage done by the cars I have to say.

Remember as said that the Corrados are stupidly heavy, and they are massively underpowered in anything other than G60 or VR6 guise.

Also they have a thing for getting massive electrical problems. I know a good load of people that have had to have the autoelectricians out to get the cars rewired. Not a happy car to have when that happens.

Although they are still better than a mk3 imo.

i would definatly go for the Corrado  , much better than a mk3 in my opinion, i have really really wanted one for ages and keep almost selling the mk2 turbo to get one but can never quite bring myself to do it, maybe i will one day..........

Thanks to all for your replies!!
Lots of food for thought.  I am also concerned about the mileage on the raddo.  I've actually gone a bit mad, I test drove an EVO 2 GSR today, what a difference to the raddo!!  I'm swaying toward an EVO now!  And to think I've been driving a clapped out Audi 80 quattro for the past 6yrs too!!  I'll let you know which way I jump.

cheers for now.
