I've relied to this under another section, but can you be more specific?

I had a similar problem on my mk2 gti 8v, you want to check that the radiator motor is working, when your engine gets hot, the temperator switch on the bottom of the radiator should turn it on

Best advice to start with is buy a Haynes! invaluable if a bit frustrating might be a faulty temp sender try running it on idle with bonnet open and see if rad fan comes on and when it says it is overheating touch the pipes (carefully) and see if they feel too hot. also put the fan on hottest setting no 3 power does it warm up?  does it get really hot or just hot etc Good Luck!
