Sup
I cant decide what to buy as a second car. Ive saved a few pennies over the months. Have about 5k to spend on a car.
Im NOT selling the MK2! (thank you for talking me out of this) I was looking at something German 'old-skool' something like a BMW E30 as they remind me of the mk2 golf
Not too bothered about petrol cost or too much about insurance. I have something sorted for that.
Has to be german and old skool. Nothing VW this time
Any ideas?

So cool you have to keep it in a freezer

190 Cosworth
BMW 3 series Touring (Its the only E30 I've warmed to, except a genuine LHD M3)
BMW 6 series
Audi Coupe (if possible a quattro...)
Porsche 928 or 944?
Hows about a Trabant, or is that the wrong side of Germany, lol
-
i looked at the e30 m3 but i dont do left hookers
next
-
Gotta be a porsche 944.
or an
Audi Quattro UR. (although i doubt you have enough cash for one of them  )

Good/ bad?

Just my opinion, but I don't like it...
If you want a Cabriolet, get an Audi 2.6 Cabriolet, my dad has one from '96 which he paid £4800 for and is mint. Looks so much nicer than E30 Cabs, too
-
i would be tempted to go for the Merc E190 2.5 16 Cosworth with a manual gear box.
-
Sounds to me like you have your mind made up mate, just go and get the bimmer.
-
Yeah, it looks like you have your heart set on the dealermobile, so just get it...

Yea there is always the small matter of insurance to contend with!

-

i not keen on the cossie merc's so they are off the list

Save some money get an E30 318iS? I had one of these, certainly what I'd describe as the gti equivilant... rev happy, nice and light...
or further along the 325 sport? and further from than the motorsport cab!
-
E30 325i Sport + Mods
E28 M5?
-
A 318iS E30 as said above, an E36 328i Coupe, or an E30 Touring with a few very subtle mods. By subtle I mean; change the bottom end for the 2.7 525e, 325 12v head, Alpina chip, brake upgrade, suspension etc etc.
Should give in the region of 210 brake, this is roughly the same as an early Alpina spec engine. With some head work and ecu fettling you might get some more.
Just be very careful in the wet, the E36 has better rear suspension design than the E30 so doesn't get ar$e out so easily. Is that a good or a bad thing :undecided:
-
the E30 is snappier than the E36, but not unpredictable. I used to be able to hold both of mine out without any difficulty...

Needs a bit of work, but with 5k to spend you could easily cover that :)
This looks quite nice..

Bro,
stick a 20 valve turbo in your golf - you know it makes sense.
-
Blue mate, sod all of the above, the ONLY option you really have, buy me the quattro for my birthday :) And keep the golf for yourself :)

boring.

BMW 3 series Touring (Its the only E30 I've warmed to, except a genuine LHD M3)
Same! That would be my recommendation too, not that i've driven one mind.
-
i thought about a 20V conversion Fraiser
yes its boring but still rapid.
Just fancy a change. I want to rag someone else's ''sorted'' motor and put the mk2 back i the box
-
This could be the one????

I second the E28 M5. I had an E28 M535I what a car - pd £800 - lsd/218bhp/rear wheel drive/full black leather/ electric everything/ slithered everywhere - the original lithuanian porn car.
-
a 2wd Saff Cosworth, 5k should get you a stage 3 (330-370bhp) in fairly good nick, theyre cheap to give significant power increase, and they go like stink when you get em right...... and rwd is so much fun
im not biased honest

Too late.
Read my other post
