is there anything on the 1985 gti 8v engine manual fuel injection style used to help it start when cold? just wondering if this maybe the problem

also at what opperating temperature should the fan kick in at as mine seems to be boiling over by all accounts.

The cold start valve (5th injector) enriches the mixture briefly when starting.
If the coolant is boiling up and the fan isn't coming on then check the switch on the rad.
