Title: interior light
Post by: Gozza on 07 December 2003, 20:10

Anyone know how the interior light works ? Mine works but not on the doors, I think the thing that does the delay is shaffed and if I set it to only come on when doors are opened it just stays on. Can I replace this bit if so where do i get the bits from ?

THX

Best to check silly things first. Is the switch on the light in the right place? I thought my interior lights weren't working but I just hadn't put the switch in the right place. To go on when the doors open it should be pushed as far as it go towards the windscreen.

lol thanks for the reply but yes I have checked that and it was correct :(, never the simple things on my cars.

Basically when I put it in the position you say and shut the door you can see it dim slightly as if it is going to go off after a few secs like my last golf but then it just stays on :( damn thing

sounds like crossed wires to me. The switch has probably broken inside.

Take the switch out and test it manually by taking the wires off.
I think the brown wire switches the lights on when connected to earth.

I have blue neons on my inside roof that come on when I open the door and light up all the inside ;D

This is pi@#ing me off now, looked at the light and there are no wires crossed, I am sure the thing that keeps the charge for a few secs when you close the door is shafted, there must be summink I can do, you dont realise how simple things like this can get on ya titties til they go :(.

Where can I get a replacement/fix this damned thing ?

The wiring diagrams indicate that the delay circuit is fitted in interior light unit. Maybe changing the interior light would be the answer. You could get the complete unit off a scrapper and try it out.

I got it off ebay, I assume you can get em from VAG?  If so give the guys at www.gpcvwaudi.com a call, they sell genuine VAG kit for proper prices!

Well go on then you can have it for free :)

Wahey nice one matey, erm could you send it to me and I will then sort the postage for ya :)

Oh and Dubslug I have not got a clue what arches I have but assume they are standard as they were bought as part of a kit by the previous owner. He spent absolutely sh!t loads on it and I have all the receipts to show for it :)

look like standard '90 spec GTI arches to me :)

on a different tangent with your light problem, have you got an alarm on there? some alarms, Clifford for example, introduce that interior light delay themselves

Nah no alarm, just a cat 2 immob.

I was wondering if I could maybe take the light apart n rewire it to remove the delay thingy as it works perfectly apart from not coming on when the doors are open ??

Well why not give it a go, the worst you can do is break it!!
