Title: dont understand the prob
Post by: nadlad on 16 May 2006, 22:35
my golf is doing my head in some say MAf some say wastegate seized up however general consensus is that u dont drive it hard enough so today i been booting it everywhere going through the gears changing at 3000rpm as appose to 1500 and it certainly does feel good.

with diesels do u have to boot em more and not drive em like you wud with a petrol or is that bull$hit , anyway the upshot of all this is i drove from york to sheffield uni around 65 miles and i didnt get any power failure was this random or was it coz i been booting it all day and maybe just maybe the seized wastegate has become unseized, maybe i cleared all the $hit out of it, coz previously on my last two trips from shef to york and york to shef i had  power cut outs,

i dont know whether it was random or what in any case am thinkign of replacing the maf as some say its the first thing to change and then ill see how things go,...

any ideas pls feel free to share

thanks

start with the maf as there cheap i think oem parts have the best deal but you need to call them. What engine is yours? diesels id say about 4k and petrols 5-6k. Every car needs to be taken up the rev range just to clear the combustion chambers, inlet/outlet and get the fluids around but you dont need to cain it every day. could always get yourself a cheap fault code reader see if any codes are being thrown up and then get them cleared and check again for sticking problems.

if you're changing gear at 1500rpm you're not giving the turbo a good workout!! Turbo comes on song at about 1900rpm and pulls right through to about 3000rpm.  no point revving past that as the torque curve drops right off!!

plant your right foot man!! even if you cane it you won't do less than 40mpg

You might have to go into the shop or give them a call, also try electronicgizmos.co.uk as im thinking about getting one from them, plugs into the pc serial port, download the free ross vagcom software and away you go as they said.

This bit of kit sounds pretty simple in comparison to full blown computer software versions but would do the job http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GDVAG.html
