Post by: g83 on 16 May 2006, 20:50
hi,having the local plod looking around my car twice in the last week outside the house :angry:even tho it has parked in the same place for the last eight months, the second time they mentioned something about the wheels & tyres i would like to know where i stand legally with the tyres streched just incase it goes any further, cheers to anyone that can shed some light on the subject :smiley:

It would help if you said what tyre profile and width!

That shouldnt be a problem though. The only thing plod can pull you over is if the tread of the tyer sticks outside the bodywork.

sorry i should have said they are 9x14 with 215x40x14

the tread of the tyre is not outside the arch just that the side profile is streched out to the rim.

then you should be fine, i've got 195/50/15 on my 8.5" and i think its not too bad. they can't do you for stretch, but obviously if you go stupid there is a danger they will roll off the rim. with your tyres i'd say you're fine.

tread pattern on the tyre just needs to be under the arch, thats all.

yeah and to be honest they'd have to be some clued up VOSA nerds to start questioning you. did you actually speak to them? if they say anything just say its passed MOT's and i doubt they'll know what to do after that.

First off whats the local plod? is that like the cops? the fuzz? the filth?
second i like the way stretched tires look but, are they good perfomance wise? they LOOK good but how are they in handling? cuz over here people up-grade to like 17x7's usually on 205-40-17' tires or 16x7's on 205-45-16' tires  for the wider tire footprint on the ground. i don't know those stretched tires look like the side wall is going to pop off....

Yeppo, the plod is the filth, the 5-0, da feds, the Police..

The stretch on the tyres is just for the look, I personally prefer to have as much rubber on the floor as possible, don't want to make things harder for myself, do I.... :laugh:

I've never driven with strech tyres on, so could only imagine them not being too good for handling, and the very fact that if you go too crazy, they could fall off makes me think 'whats the point'.

Raceboy..Plod=cops!
Don't underestimate what the Police can, or cant do.. If it was your local beat bobby (cop)
he was probably just interested in your car.. ie, something different.
If however you get pulled by the Traffic boys, don't get saying that your car passed the MOT with them on! the tester could lose his licence!!! best thing to say is that you just fitted them! you'll probably get a "producer" ticket, and take your car to an MOT testing station for inspection, It'll be a brave tester that says there safe for the road! especially as the police are involved :huh:
The police could also use manufacturer's fitting specifications as evidence, I doubt that you would come out on top!
By the way, this subject was covered a few weeks back, on page 5, check it out
