Hi, I need to replace the front top mounts for MOT test on a Mk3 Golf 1.6GL (97 AFT). I've searched the archive and GSF units don't seem to be recommended, dealer parts are a bit pricey...any advice on an alternative source....Thanks  Also, are GSF lowering spring kits any good as would like to lower 35-40mm at the same time, they seem pretty cheap, I don't want to waste the cash & effort if they're not much good. :undecided:

i would only use genuine vw top mounts as aftermarket ones can be known to be just as bad as the old
ones youve taken off .
if you can go for the gmax lowered springs and shocks they are cheap and a good set up ,if you have the money go for a good quality ajustable coilovers or koni top ajustable spring and shock as you do get what you pay for.

Thanks for the advice, will have to dig a little deeper for the VW mounts. We'll skip the lowering springs, its not my car and the owner is a bit strapped for cash. Can you get top lowering spring plates for the mk3 which drop about 10-15mm? (I can find them listed for the mk2 but not mk3). The main concern is that the current top mounts are so shot the front is down by about 15mm and the car does'nt look too bad with 195/50 15's, but with top mounts replaced it will look daft! :undecided:

Thanks for the info, have ordered top mounts & bumpstops from AVS.
Do you know of a source for 'lowering' top spring plates, if such exist? Thanks again....
