Title: rear wiper slow!
Post by: Simpson on 16 May 2006, 15:56
ok so this must have been asked thousands of times, my wiper works but slowly and doesnt return to cycle. I have tried another relay and checked the wiring. There is 12 volts when the relay kicks in for a split second aand then it returns to 7? is this right? anything else i could check?

Its more than likely the park wire has broken. It usually breaks inside the rubber boot that connects the boot lid to the car. Top left when you open the boot.

The key there is probably that it only moves slowly, I had exactly this problem on my last car. All it needed was some wd40 spraying around the wiper spindle. I think the motor only stays on for an amount of time determined by the relay and if it hasn't been switched off by the park wire then the relay switches it off hence it parks in a random position.

The park is controlled by the wiper motor itself, mine was the same and was fixed by replacing the motor with a good one.  This can also be caused by damaged wiring as it passes thru the rubber boots between the body & tailgate, and also a gummed up spindle as already said.

Gonna hijack this thread  sorry!

My wiper on my daily driver turns on fine but instead of being intermittent (sh!t spelling  :embarassed:) it's continuous! And you can't turn it off unless you turn off the car!!  But then sometimes it functions as normal??? Any ideas?

same as mine was, check the wiring then replace the motor :)
