Title: Automatic central locking
Post by: Eric on 15 May 2006, 21:56
Hi ,

First posting tonight.Mailing from Dublin and came across your site by accident. I have a small query if someone can help.Is it possible to set the central locking to automatically lock when the car moves off.A friend of mine has a C180, which does lock automatically  and he reckons I should be able to do it.

Any info greatly appreciated.Great site by the way.

Eric

Hey fella!

I got mine sorted at the dealers for free, it's only a 5 minute job so you shouldn't have any problems...  my doors now lock at 10 mph

Once the automatic central locking has activated, can the doors be opened from the inside without turning off the ignition? I'm thinking of when you're dropping someone off. My wifes mini has a switch on the dash to unlock the doors with the engine running.

Pick my GTI up this saturday  and thinking of asking the dealer to switch on auto central locking.

You just pull the handle twice to open the door fella, the Mini should be the same........  First pull to unlock, second to open

If you have the highline computer on the GTi (if you have the gears displayed along the bottom of the display rather than up the right then you do) then you can go into the setup (press "up" on the button on the end of the right stalk for a few secs) and switch on auto door locking.

Its under Convenience, Doors, Auto Close or something like that. When you drive away the doors lock automatically, and when you take the key out the iginition they unlock. If you want to unlock manually, press the button near the drivers door handle.

Also, if the passenger wants out, he can pull the handle twice to open the door.

If you don't have the highline I think the dealer can do it for you.

What else can you do through the highline computer that can't do with midline?

Yup, I want that auto-locking thing enabled.

Also, I want the remote to open all the doors on one press of the button - can I do that, or is it a dealer thing ? (No highline).

I ordered a Highline computer with my GTI and paid for it... however, I am suspecting that my computer is not highline.. how do I tell?

if you have the gears displayed along the bottom of the display rather than up the right then you have the highline computer (the midline puts them up the side)

I have a 3dr gti and the unlock button unlocks all the doors

Not sure of the other diff's between midline and highline...sorry

I don't have gears displayed anywhere - probably because I have a manual car

I got my dealer to programme the auto lock but it seems as if they have done a half job as the doors don't unlock when you turn the ignition off??

On the hi-line computer there is an option to programme the doors to lock above 10mph, and then another option to do the same but then unlock them when you stop.  So I suppose the dealer picked the wrong choice for you?

if you want the auto locking turned on by a dealer, tell them you want Anti highjack turned on, best to have it done before you pick it up, as some want to charge for it!
