Title: mk 8v GTI digifant tuning tips
Post by: B16VRF on 14 May 2006, 23:07
Just wondering if anyone has any good tuning tips to increase perfomance on a mk2 8v GTI digifant. Theirs a few i have in mind, such as Stainless steel Exhaust manifold, converting to twin 40 webber carbs and cams (heard someone mention TSR fast road cams??) These are what i have so far, with a few little mods such as Air filters etc.

Many thanks guys

Keep up the good work  :smug:

2.0 bottom end from mk3 gti/passat/some audi's, polished and ported head. Not sure what else can be done apart from that and what you've mentioned. Maybe a re-map could get some more power after you've done a bit of work(?), but obviously not if you're running carbs!

port the head and put a race cam and pulley on it, done right theres loads of power to be made. or turbo it its easier.

Nice one lads. I think will defintely look into getting a new bottom end. I wish i could afford a turbo then i'd be laughing

Have you looked at the tuning guide in the maintenance + info section? Could give you some gain for free if you have the skills and tools, and haven't got it set up quite right.

3A short block from an 1990ish Audi 80 2.0e is arguably the easiest 2.0 block to use.

lol..f@#k i've just bought one for a laugh now, only £2.00 lol,  saying that my mate bought one for his Punto and it does work, especially top end.

Also referring back to the bottom end conversion, have seen an audi 80 1992 bottom end, its a J reg. Any clues as to whether this be okay or not?

can anybody actually confirm if any of these do work? there are plenty of CHEAP CHIPS on ebay to give better performance to digi engines and eliminate digi lag, is this the case and can anybody say its worked on theirs?

You can defintely notice a difference but nothing to drastic. I used to work with a lad who had a 1.8 16v Renault Clio, and he had one of these cheap chips, and said he did notice a difference but only really on top end, but he later bought a superchip to replace his current chip in his ECU, so on some level they try to claim they give the same increase in BHP as a superchip, when infact they do increase performance a little because they are releasing more fuel so mechanically, they will do something.

My mate has one on his punto which has a resistor dial to turn it on or off, and ive driven it and compared the difference in it, when its on and off and there is defintely a much torquer gear change and top end, yet not so much bottom end, however his is only a 1.3 sporting, so i can imagine placing the mod on a 1.8 isn't going to do a hell of a lot. I have never considered to buy one, until now, basically just for the fact its £2.00 and to give it a go for a laugh, if its more thirsty at the same performance then will simply take it off. lol but once i recieve it i will put some feedback on here
