Title: how accurate is the computer?

was playing with the computer thingy today and was wondering how accurate it was, a little suspicious at the mpg being at 36.3 although I aint be driving the car hard :rolleyes:, especially since the ford computer sucked big time in my orion and looked like it belonged in a taxi.

I'd guess not very, My mpg is 40!

mine read's 35 to 36 on a 12 mile journey to work.motorway most of it though. :smiley:

I checked mine against the petrol pumps on a refill and it was only about 2mpg out. I get around 36mpg out of mine on the daily motorway commute @ 75 - 80 mph.

The computer will alway be abit out as it a calculation based on feedback from sensors which are calibrated to a specific or range of values/settings.

So for example you have 15", 16", 17" rims those calculations will be silghty out due to the 1%-7% difference in speed using different tyre. Also using stock rims and tyres, as these wear slightly will give a % of error of around 1%.

The vacum sensor on the back of the dash clocks is probably the most important component of these calculations, so if you start seeing high mpg check for very slight slight vacum leeks or try a different sensor. As this would indicate a slight fault in that locale, also a good check is check all earth cons are in clean and connected correctly.
