I'm starting think about the best way to install my stereo and was interested in the opinions/advice of others, at the moment the front speakers consist of a pair of mid range and tweeters with the mids in the doors and the tweets in the dash. I'm thinking of changing this set up when I fit my own speakers in, I was going to fit the tweeters in the blanks that are where the window winders would have been. My question is has anyone ever done this and is it any better or worse than putting them in the dash, feedback appreciated

On the dash in the corners is probably the best option as it raises the sound stage as high as possible. Even if they are pointing straight at the windscreen its all good becuase the sound bounces off straight into your face. In the winder holes is probably too low.

Thanks for that, I was thinking that having the mids and tweets closer together mite be better but you've given me something to think about know. Cheers

I keep all my stuff in the standard positions. If 'orrible little 'erberts start looking in seeing aftermarket speakers, they'll probably break in and go looking for amps to steal...

Fair point mate but if I was to put the tweeters in the window winder blanks I would cover them with black cloth so they didn't stand out. I have the car garaged over night and work in a court so its usually pretty safe

What car have you got?
I'm adapting my a-pillar trims to house my tweeters and using Audioscape pods for my mids

I've got a MK2 5 dr

They'll fall off! speaking from experience i have three holes in each blanking plate from this.

I'll give that a miss then, I'm interested to find out if anyone has ever put the tweeters in the window winder blanks and what it sounds like. I mite just get a pair of spare blanks and give it a try, if I don't like it no problem. If I was to fit the tweeters in the dash pods how hard is it to feed the wiring down through the dash and wheres the best place for the cross overs ?

A-pillar trims not the plate that goes the other side of the mirrors
I'll be fg'ing and they are held on with a screw at the top and a spring clip thing at the bottom

Mine are in the window winder blanks and tbh it blocks a lot of the top end with your knees whilst driving! I think the best thing is to take out the standard mk2 dash speakers and make a bracket/plate and fit the tweeters to that. :) the top end should bounce of the windscreen and give you a nice soundstage up front it's what I intend to do.

Thanks for that mate thats the sort of thing that I couldnt of known untill I'd fitted them so you've saved me the trouble fitting them in the doors and then having to move them into the dash, cheers
