Title: A couple of questions
Post by: benny on 09 May 2006, 22:43
Hi all. Wondered if anybody else has come across an intermitent (and annoying) rattle/knocking from behind the radio/dashboard? -
it's driving me fookin mental.

Also, is it normal on these for a small pool of water to collect at the bottom of the driver/front passenger door seal after its been raining?

It's a 5 door 2002 GTI 180, which I think is great except for that fookin rattle - arrrrg!!

i dont know much about that rattle of yours m8y, (but it sounds like a loose glove box!! :undecided:) but i think i can help with the water....it happened to mine when it rained but i found that by  half covering the pollen filter with a plastic bag (located just underneath the windscreen, in the scuttle tray, drivers side) it cured the problem!!

i was quoted summin ridiculous by VW just to identify that i had a leak!! and another garage told me to "park it the other way around on your drive when it rains!!"....all very helpful...not

the plastic bag trick has worked a treat so far, and it started around 3 yrs ago for me.

the problem with mine was that the water was running off the windscreen, through the scuttle tray and directly into my pollen filter. this was then soaking wet and dripped through into the passenger side footwell.

ive also heard that the drain channels in the wing can get blocked and cause the water to overflow into the car, these can be blown out to remove the blockage.

hope this helps you.

just a quick point, you'll probably have to change the pollen filter if its wet (these are quite cheap from GSF)
its awkward to get too, you'll curse alot

If you think the rattle is from the stereo have you tried pulling it out and checking no connectors or anything are knocking around.
