Title: Disaster! Clutch removal problem
Post by: Emc on 07 May 2006, 15:57
Can anyone help? We are finding it physically impossible to drop the transmission in order to change the clutch. Cant believe its possible without removing the engine - dont want to put it all back together unfixed. Are we missing something?

You not got a haynes or a workshop manual?

I would have thought attempting a job like this without one a little optermistic. As said above you need to wiggle it around a fair bit to get it out. I didn't do mine, but my local mechanic hated doing it. It took him hours to get the box back in and the startermotor lined up!

Rotate the diff up to give you enough clearance.
BTW haynes is next to useless!

Have you tried the metal flywheel cover, gets people everytime, all it takes it a couple of 10mm bolts, and wahey, she's out!

I presume you have removed the driveshafts from the box already, and all the spline/hex bolts around the bell housing. It should then just rotate 90 degrees clockwise and then be able to be pulled straight off. It's a quite heavy lump but as long as one person is supporting and the other moving it around then it should be pretty straight forward.

Yep - all disconnected, free to rotate. Do we need to rotate before withdraw? Thanks!
