Title: Need some help fellas! ugent before calling dealer....
Post by: Matt555 on 06 May 2006, 09:45
Can you please check your motors out for this grease lads...  It's on the drivers side, and you'll work the rest out from the pic....

It's confusing me as it looks like it's a manufacturing fault or it's meant to be there?!?!?!

See what you think..........

Nor on mine - I insisted on checking mine as soon as it came off the transporter... sometimes they get damaged in transit and the dealers 'fix' them ... point is that they may try and put the blame on you.

Thanks fellas.....

My thinking is that it happened when the car was built.  I work for a certain motor manufacturer myself and have seen these things happen, but the cars never leave the plant without getting sorted first....  the way the paint looks just makes me think it happened before spraying....  I'm just confused as to why it's got all the way to me before being picked up!!!!  I can't see how that was missed....  the dealer should be calling me back asap, i'd rather not have a new door, but if need be then it'll have to happen...........

That aint normal mate.

When all VW's leave the plants they have a polystyrene block stuck to that part of the door to prevent chips when opening doors close to other cars. I have unfortunately seen this damage several times. It's caused by a door being swung open onto something so it bends the door edge but doesn't damage the paint because of the polystyrene. Very poor of your dealer not to spot it. Good news is it's an easy fix. You won't want to watch them do it though. Pair of pliers with rubber wrapped over the blade and bend back the other way. You can do it yourself but sod it!, get you dealer to sort it, they bent it!

Hey thanks fella, that makes sense and the motor is already back at the dealers and hopefully fixed today or first thing tomorrow morning...

I've also noticed that the Supagard security number didn't take on the rear screen so they'll order another cut-out and re-do it....

It's only when you have a problem that you find out how good your dealer is and so far I'm really impressed with mine, it makes a refreshing change

Good stuff, glad to see they sorted it out but would have thought it should have been spotted on the PDI.

For sure, but they looked genuinely embarressed.........  I'll cut them some slack as the job is spot on and there were no questions or blame.......

Your dealer sounds really good - or maybe thats only because they knew they could fix it quite easily and cheaply?!  I am always cynical about dealers unless proven otherwise.

That sums up my attitude rather well too!!

I hate to harp on about VW / Audi, but my experience with these two has really tainted the experience of running our Golfs and A4s. Always had superb service from Toyota dealers for our Mr2 - and its needed a fair few things on the warranty....

I'm being honest when i say that SO FAR this has been the best dealer i've used....  I've been to the same dealer twice before, once i walked out mid conversation and the second time the salesperson put me right off the R32 (MK4 january last year) and i walked off again...  This time round things are totally different and after speaking to the sales manager we found out the staff have changed and so has their work ethics, time will tell of course but so faer i'm very happy.  the sales guy we bought the car from is a genuine enthusiast, it made a refreshing change........  but in a couple of hours i'll be taking the boxster to the porsche dealer to get serviced and fleeced!!  always a happy day

When we had the A3 i had a massive dust up with one dealer in Oxord, lots of finger pointing and shouting, not my style to be honest but the service manager was calling my misses a bad driver (of sorts).  I then found a great dealer in gloucester, fantastic service department but shocking sales!!!

i'll keep you posted on my current VW dealer, so far so good............
