Hi..I am new to this and have just purchased a 2001 Y reg Golf 1.9 TDI PD and have notice that when I get to approx 2500 rpm the speed flattens and I won't accelerate above 70mph, I've noticed this in 3rd 4th gear. I have read that it could be a problem with the MAF sensor. Can anyone please advise me where I can locate this in the Golf Mk4 and if this can be replaced 'easily' by myself? Any ideas where I can buy a new part...at a reasonable price?? Any help would be appreciated...

It should be on the tubing from the air box to the throttle body. All you can see is a plug going into the tubing. If its the same as mine its a 5 min job to remove the whole unit. This is what i did on my 2.0 remove the plug, loosen the large jubilee clip, open the air box, unclip the little snorkel thing, remove the 2 maf to air box screws and it should just pull out. I got my maf for £40 from the portland group off ebay. However some people have had trouble with them. I think oem parts sell them cheaply if not vw sell the actuall sensor for about £70

Hi GolfGL - Many thanks for your prompt response. I'll give it a try, it seems to be a common problem from what i can see.
