Hi recently had my 2 & 1/2 year old 306 estate written off and ended up buying an imported VW Golf MK4 S 1.6 from trade-sales where I got my 306 from. At ?10299 it beats UK show room prices and still comes with a 2 year warranty!
It will be good to be a VW owner again. Went there to by a Ford Focus but the VW quality sold it to me. I have had 2 Polos before and still like the VW build. The S comes with A/C, cruise control, elec windows etc.
It has no alloy wheels but I have managed to get hold of some brand new 5 spoke 15" VW ones from ebay from liquidated stock. Still not sure what tyres these will need ? I think the stock are 14" so it means new tryers as well :( Did not want to go bigger than 15" as tyre costs go up :(
Should I get the stock VW locking nuts (expensive from VW) or can I use others ?
Also re the matts are the rubber or carpet ones best ? any third party ones I should consider ?
What about headlight protectors are they worth it ?
Many thanks and excuse the newbie owner questions.
Regards
Jerry

Hey thanks for the info and welcome.
Re alloys :(
I paid ?185 for the alloys but have yet to buy the tyres so not too bad value.

Well picked up some rubber front VW mats and locking nuts from the VW stockist yesterday.
The locking nuts were actually cheaper than in halfords. It also seems that the key is not one size fits all as each had a unique code.
So is it worth getting some of the headlight protectors ?
Get my new Golf at the weekend :D

Picked up my brand new "black" Golf Mk4 1.6. I am very pleased with it :P
Very solid ride and the whole car is nice and tight/well finished off inside.
Fitted the 5 spoke 15" VW Ronal alloys with continental contacts (tyres were only ?210 fitted and balanced!!) which really transformed the look. (now have a set of stock 14" wheels, caps and tyres with only 100 miles on them, to sell)
I have a slight ticking noise at idle which I am trying to track down ???
It's on the and left hand side as you look under the bonnet. I think it must just be something wearing in ?
Anyway after a few years away from VW it's good to be back ;D
Ok I know it's tacky but where can I get a subtle back rear spoiler that fitts to the top of the rear window ?
Also is it worth gluing my ariel in ?
Regards
Jerry

If its the flexible "bee sting" type arial, and you want a spoiler, I wouldn't bother glueing it ! It's true they won't snap in an automatic carwash (yes i'm lazy) but they spring back with a WHACK! Hence my spoiler has a little dent in it :-[ Best to leave it unscrewable.

Thanks.
So where did you get your spoiler ?

Hi Jerry - on the spoiler path myself. Can get them direct from VW for ?99 (primed) or on ebay or aftermarket designes such as 'awesome gti' who must have >10 different types. Obviously you then need to get them sprayed up and fitted (or do this yourself). Think the VW one is the only one with the knotch out of it to bridge the ariel when you open the boot fully, some of the others will rub. Hope this helps...and congrats on your new motor - I'd been away from VWs for a while (corrado last) and glad to be back too. ;D

just sold my spoiler as i decided to stay euro style, nice and smooth, sold my spoiler for ?45 including p+p
-
Thanks.
So where did you get your spoiler ?
Jerry
Factory fitted mate, think they're standard on 1.8T's ? unsure.

I'm lucky enough to have had 3 Mk4 GTis and none of them had a spoiler as standard, they are a factory or after market option

my ??? 1.8 gtiT aint got no spoiler either dont think there standered!
