Title: refurbing wheels, best way?

can you do it yourself, and get rid of the curbing? if so how... if not who can and at what cost?

I read somewhere that there is a kit you can buy.

^yup...hav seen that too but as joe says, dont think u can actually get rid o the curbin..more the brake dust etc.. suppose it depends on how damaged ur wheels are :undecided:
edit: i actually spelt curbin with a "k"  :huh:

The kit I read about had a special filler in it to use on the kerbing, plus paint and laquer.

So I'm sure it woulddo the job.

But then some decent metal filler plus the other stuff should do the job as well.

Well if I cant find this kit I will give it a try!

Those Momo's of mine are sooooooo bad so I cant make em any worse! :rolleyes:
They are still on the ground floor of the garage too at the mo, not been moved upstairs out of the way where they will get forgotten!

So I will make the effort!

Unless you are capable of doing a small local repair yourself, on an otherwise good wheel, your best bet is to leave it to the pro's, If you have wheels that are just painted silver, without any polished areas, but are corroded, have them media blasted, sand out any kerbing marks, and get them off to an enameler's, and they should come out looking like new, for not much $$$$   If you have painted and polished rims that need a total refurb, get them professionally done, but ask them NOT to Lacquer the polished portion of the rim.. its the lacquer that does the damage, when it gets chipped, water gets under, and starts the corrosion process all over again, instead keep the polished part clean with Autosolve, and a light coating of Vaseline :wink: for when the weather is not so good...

But mine are a LOT worse than that!!!! And its all four wheels and virtually all around the rim.

As I said earlier whatever I do I cant make them any worse, they are worth virtually nothing now.

So I've decided to have a go and I'll post some piccies of how I get on.

Well I took a file to one of em yesterday!!!!!! :shocked:
Turned out o.k. well as far as I've got!

Got some metal filler and shaped and sanded it down. The problem now is gonna be matching the paint!!! :sad:
Then of course painting such a narrow strip!
Then feathering in the lacquer!

Ho Hum!
