Title: 1.8 T Engine trouble (cracked coils-plugs) HELP PLEASE...
Post by: b16ful on 03 May 2006, 18:29
Hi

I have only had my 2000 1.8 T a few months and been having some idling / stalling / flat acceleration problems.  Had a guy check it out and the fault codes were 17705 (P1297 - Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose)  17545 (P1137 - Long Term Fuel Trim Add.Fuel,Bank1 System too Rich)
The MAF was registering 1.2v instead of 1.4v....

Had the MAF replaced and that seems to have cured the problem slightly, but the missfiring / idling still occurs sometimes a bit and not as harsh....

Also noticed when I took the engine cover off that underclose inspection the 4wires which come out of each of the four plugs have slight cracks showing the copper wire.  This doesn't look good to me  and read alot about coilpacks etc...  Could this be causing my problems??  I guessing these need to be replaced, does the coilpack itself often need replacing??

Any suggestions from people that have had this problem and also costs etc would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers

Cracked coil pack wires are a common prob apparently and can cause the car to missfire, try wrapping the wires in insulation (electrical) tape should cure the problem.
