Title: Help needed Window removal
Post by: benmk1 on 03 May 2006, 15:59
Hi all just about to throw out my old tailgate, as it's compleatly shot (well it is a 79) and I've stripped it of everything appart from the glass, which I'd like to keep as it has the number plate etched. The thing is how do i get it out without braking it ?????
Cheers
Ben

If you're not bothered about keeping the seal, just cut it away and carefully lift the glass out - easiest way!

Thanks, I did think of that. What about keeping the seal is that possible or just a major pain in the asre?

The tailgate window comes out easily without cutting the seal.

Use a flat-headed screwdriver and wedge-out the inner seal lip. Do this slowly starting from a corner and the window will pop-out. Work from the inside of the car. The window comes out by focring it from the inside of the car. Its diffifult to explain but a 5min job.

To put the window back in use a string, position the window and pull the string. The string will pull-over the inner seal lip. Use washing up liquid to help.
