Ive had a look at one in the flesh. The build quality is nowhere as good as a German VW, id like to see one after 5 years of UK roads and there are a lot of MK2 parts grafted on so it looks a bit of a heinz 57.
With shipping and import you would be looking at getting on for 10k.. You could build a concours UK MK1 for that!!!
-
Looks really cool. I would be interested if the build quality was good.
-
We saw one in the flesh at VW Action. In fact I think I took a photo........and I'm sure jv did too

What was the build quality like?
-
yummy
-
I'm pretty sure it only came as a 5 door, mk1 should be 3 for the best look
-

seemed good. i mean they are obviously made on a budget because the whole point is to provide a cheap car in SA.
look damn odd tho with that big mk4 steering wheel and mk4 type airbag seats then a mk1 dash!
-
What was the build quality like?
To be honest, apart from the obvious differences, I thought it looked OK. Having said that I didn't touch the thing so I have no idea how well the doors close and how solid it all feels.

man, if they made a 3door they would be flooding over here! imagine being able to buy a brand new 'modernised' mk1, put in the 20vT and off you go ;D

Woohooo, 20vT in a brand new 3 door Mk1.........I'll have one ;D ;D
-
That is really bizarre....looking at a classic shape, but with a modern interior!! Quality!!
-
I thought the dash looked modern, with a retro feel, the illumination was a lot better and it still had the mk1 look, but just a little bit softer and more upto date
-
