All day Monday the car was running perfect.  I parked it up on Monday night and went out to it last night about 9pm and it refused to start.  Its turning over but just not biting.  As a result I've now killed the battery and probably dented the door as I lost the rag and gave it a bit of a boot.  I've only had the car a week now and until now I have been really happy with it.  Any suggestions as to what it could be.  My initial thought was the immobiliser but the fuel pump still kicks in when the ignition goes on so I cant see it being that.  It was very wet and misty all night and all day, think it could be dampness??

Could be the damp.........check your cap, leads, plugs etc.
You could also try (once you've charged it back up) having an assistant turning the engine over whilst you look under the bonnet at night or in the dark. If it looks like a firework display under there then that should help identify why you're not getting a spark.

my fuel pump (used) to kick in when I started mine wo out immob. but my cars a bit weird so I wouldn't go buy that.... when I shut my doors the horn goes off....

I would try the dizzi cap m8 whip it off and check inside that all the points are nice and clean also check the roater arm is clean, give it a blast of WD40 and do the same with your plugs

use duck oil instead of wd 40 if poss

shock sensor on the alarm to sensitive?

mmmm perhaps if the alarm hadn't gone off at 1 am wen i was bleazin and i snapped the wire so I don't actually have an alarm..... Its prob something to do with the electrics - i fitted elec windows nuff said!

I took off the dizzy cap and gave it a good clean, sprayed it up and the car has come alive again.  I notice that now the idle is sitting at 1500RPM which is 500RPM more than it used to.  Its as if the choke is sticking on.  I managed to snap the dipstick (I'm good at breaking things) whilst putting the dizzy cap back on as I lent on it  >:(  Could this contribute to the idle being high?

dipstick isnt anything to do with it idling too high. maybe the timing is moved slightly.

ive got a similar problem with my gti, just wont start and keeps on flattening the battery in about 40 seconds of turning over. i lost my rag and took it out on my nova in the garage. it needs a new door now, lol.

ive had the dizzy cap and rotar arm off on mine and cleaned the connections but it started again after that, just wont do it now.

have had a dampness prob with my mk2 lately!!, so stripped dizzy and wd40'd, get a rubber glove cult the ends of the finger tips off, place one lead though each finger and slide over the dizzy, then spray wd40 all in side glove then cable tie round each finger/lead and also the base then no water aint getting in!!, not had no probs since!!, (used to do this on mk1 xr2s as when snowy, snow used to come through the grill and gather round my k+n and then melt all over dizzy and cause probs!, so treid on my mk2 and has worked a treat!!) make sure you get a decent coloured glove!! dont want any pink stuff under there!! ;D
