Hi there, could someone clear something up for me?
What is the difference between a silver GTI and the same but with a red "i"
I have searched and there are a few differing opinions... But does anyone actually know for sure?
My girlfriend has an imported MK4 GTI turbo (1.8 150bhp) and its badge is just silver...
Thanks, Chris

I think there is no real consistency with the badges on mark 4's, some come with the red I, some dont. Even some top spec diesels come with silver GTI badges on! I think it was whatever the technician had in his hand at the time when the car came past on the produciton line.

Silver GTi is meant for the non turbo and Red i is meant for turbo's, but the dealers just whacked em on any old way, so its all a guessing game :undecided:

and usually the 20v NA golfs just say '20v' instead of GTI

i thought the red one ment 180 where as the silver was 150??? :undecided:

nope, the first 180's were the anniversarys and they had all silver on, tho they were not like the standard silver :nerd:
