Title: Standard Paint Codes
Post by: Gen Martok on 30 April 2006, 21:22
For all those with a "Helios" Blue VW the official VW paint code (and PPG code) is A5U and is actually called Royal Blue Metallic.

I found this out when trying to track down the code for my own GTi and phoned a local dealer with my own chasis details.

If anyone needs to find their paint codes give your local dealer a ring but make sure you have your chasis number to hand, they can just call the details up on their computer, takes less than 5 minutes and saves the hassle and embarrasment of getting it wrong.

Just in case you didnt know, the actual colour code for Royal blue is "LA5U"   Helios blue is "LA5Y"   This is how the code would appear on the paper Vin No stuck inside the rear panel/bootfloor of your VW   Its possible that the dealers computer drops the "L" because it probably stands for "lacker" meaning paint, and does'nt need it for a reference, leaveing the last 3 digits.. these "L" codes go way, way back to VWs distant past!

There's a thread I've started in the cosmetic mods section listing paint codes and names.
If anyone can add the ones they know we can have a huge list which could be useful to new comers to the vw scene. :)
