My Mk3 16V GTI has been of the road for about a year......after a new battery the little beautie turned over first time. Then i remembered the problem I had with it....
I cant select third or fourth gear, a slight problem!!! :cry: :cry:  It just grates!!! :cry:
Any ideas, they will be much appreciated.....also if anybody has suggestions for cheapest place for new disks and pads.....

Check the gear selector cables are attached and the selectors on the gearbox are moving properly.

GSF or ECP are good for brake parts.

Dont buy the QH discs... i bought some from my local trade supplier cos they were much cheapness, but got em home and they were 4 stud... took em back and was told that I need 16 valve discs... and they cost more.... anyway the long and the short of it is that as well as the catalogue description being wrong, the discs are sh!t... really soft, they've been on 2 months and theres already a lip on em... stick to the german ones.... :sad:

check your gearchange cables ,they sometimes wear the bush out ,making selection difficult,

i just got hold of a 1.4 cl, and i sometimes have difficuilty selecting gears, especially if the car has been running for a while, could it be something to do with the gearbox getting hot and becoming difficuilt to get in gear? should i just check the things you have suggested to dannyf?
