Title: Best way to get my black bits black again.
Post by: Dubwheels on 28 April 2006, 12:37
Hi, I have recently had my Mk2 Oaky Gti t-cut, touched up & polished but the black parts eg. bumper (rear mainly) door handles etc need blackening. Anyone got any recommendations of the best products or ones to avoid!!

It's a bit of a bugger to put on as it doesn't stream from the sponge quite as well as you'd hope but KIWI shoe stuff. That instant shine stuff that has it's own application pad.  Brought mine out quite well last time I did it and lasted a good month or two.

These are just my views but I use autoglym bumper care and put it on with a car wash sponge that I've cut into 4 small pieces but make sure that whatever you use it on is very clean and completely dry first. Put some on the sponge then just rub over all the plastic parts, leave for five minutes then buff over with a clean cloth, job done. I try to re-apply it every couple of weeks or when water no longer beads on it and for god sake don't use any of that back to black type sh!t its a waste of money and effort

I second the autoglym bumper care stuff, it is excellent!

Thirded - it even got rid of the nasty dried on red over-polish on mine

I use the Autoglym stuff and it does the trick. :)
it removes the little white bits left when you polish the bodywork too.

I've started using Meguiars products and want to get some of there plastic cleaner and polish, if its anything like the other stuff I've got it'll be good but it will have to go some to beat Autoglym bumper care !
