Title: URGENT HELP NEEDED : GEARS

Hi all, need some opinions and advice quickly so i can get my car sorted out asap. Vehicle is a 1991 J Mk2 Golf 1.8 16v GTI.

Basically something went pop and now i can only get 3rd and 4th gear .. Thats it!

Upon closer inspection it seems that some sort of connecting bit that goes from the gear shift to the gear box has snapped, they seem to connect via a ball and socket joint.

All i need to know is what part this actually is so i can hopefully trace one tomorrow....

I think the shorter of the two rods only does 5th gear though, although someone else will be able to tell you for definite!

While you're there I'd rebuild all the gear linkages & fit a weighted shift rod if you havent already:
