Title: auto down and up on windows
Post by: cupra20v.t on 26 April 2006, 12:46
my windows on the gti go down with 1 touch but not up?  my mate who has had a few golfs reckons they should go up and down with the one touch.  can anyone confirm this. cheers in advance.

that's total closure... all golfs with electric windows should have this. Basically open the windows, get out, lock the car with the key, holding it in the lock position et voila! windows go up. Don't know if it works on the sunroof, haven't tried...

i know about the total closure thing (sunroof does too), what i meant was if the alarm can do it, then surely there must be a way to do it with the touch of the window up button. Mine defo doesnt go up auto, down only. Not that im too bothered :)

Mine go down one touch and up one touch too, if that helps? Not sure if it's a feature of the alarm install though.....

You probably need to reset the relay, this usually happens after the battery has been disconnected. To reset, jsut put the window up holding the button, then carry on holding the button in for another ten seconds or so, next time you do the window up, it should go up by itself!!!!

its some kind of fault because i've had/got problems with mine.

i've had mine 5 years and the passenger side has always worked fine, if you hold the button down for about 1 sec and release it either opens or closes fully.

drivers side worked initially, then stopped, and has had short spells of working since but 95% of time it hasn't!!! works fine in short dabs up and down, has always worked going fully down (auto) but not up. goes up so far than back down or up to top then part way down......very annoying!!!! i would love to know if someone knows why????

i've tried lubricating the glass/runners etc. etc. some say motor but surely if the motor was the problem you would get other problems or it would pack up altogether???

i think it must be some sort of switch/sensor because they have a safety mechanism so they stop if you had you arm in the way etc.!!!

both windows open or close fully using the auto feature by holding the key in locked/locked position but sunroof doesn't?!?!? it has done intermittantly......interestingly it seemed to (auto) close when the window was functioning fully??? maybe related or coincidence?!?!......i don't know???

could be onto something there... my alarm sometimes drops the drivers window a little bit when locking, unlocking and locking again... hmmm... must be a dirty sensor or something. Have to have a look on ETKA to see where it is

Mine - one touch up and down.

I have a Cobra full closure Alarm/Immobiliser but even before that was fitted it was as above.

So I would say that you guys either hav switch faults or alarm faults.

I think Majic Mk3 has figured the solution.
Wandering if that kind of resset will resset everything.

While mine driver side goes up and down OK while passenger's side not.
I tried the majic mk3 advice but i couldn't resset the relay.
Please can anyone tell how to resset the chip that controls this.

if the window goes up & stops, goes up & stops etc, its because the motor thinks something is blocking the window and is stopping it.  lube up all the channels with proper silicone lube, can get it from halfords.

If it doen't work at all and the reset method don't help, have a look in the rubber bellows between the door & body, check for broken wires.  Factory MK3 windows shopuld have auto up & down, the Corrado loom i fitted to my MK2 Does

P.S. check if your kit is a proper factory system, and not after-market, this may be the difference!
P.P.S. Woo I have a medal

Ours is the same as yours, 1 touch down but not up. I hunted through manuals etc and from memory I am sure it was an option to go back up.  I can't guarantee this but I am as sure as 10 sure things that I read that in the handbook somewhere.

i've had this problem for years now.......still looking for a solution

passenger side works fine but drivers side goes down fully using the auto feature but not fuly up. it goes up either part way then baqck down abit or right up then partly back down.

have tried the resetting relay suggestion but hasn't worked for me.

i'm considering buying a new switch but don't want to waste my money so is it likely/unlikely to be the switch???

sounds like the safty is cutting in, try lubing up the runners

do you have to remove the door trim to do this or can you do it without too much messing around by 'squirting' stuff between window and rubber?

i think if you wind the window right down and spray some silcone lube down the channels this should do the job.  Halfords sell the stuff in a spray tin and it works well :)

My L reg Golf gti on the drivers side the window goes up and down on one touch but the passenger side only goes down on one touch. But when i open it if i unlock it and then turn the key back the otherway fully all the windows go down. I thought this was quite weird

I think thats a safetly feature, my corrado 1 touch windows are the same.  The windows all open/shut on the key due to the cool total closure system, it should also work on the sunroof I think?  8)
