Title: Idle speed.
Post by: Gozza on 02 December 2003, 13:28
Can someone tell me how to set the idle on my 1988 golf gti mark 2 16v. I know where the idle control is on the inlet, but I remember from my last golf you have to disconnect summink and plug summink up.

Can anyone remind me, pics of the bits I need to fiddle with would be superrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)

Thx

aye disconnect the red wire on the coil to disable the ISV (if your ISV is working the revs will plummet) & disconnect the breather hose on the air box

breather hose, is that the one that branches off to the right and goes along with the ht leads :)

And the wire I need to disconnect is that at the top right if the engine bay ?

no. it comes out of the actual top of the airbox and runs into the front of the block.

the other pipe is the vacumm used by the ISV

have a look here:-

here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=random&cat=10851&pos=-47)

its the thick black pipe u see below the injectors on top of the airbox, and running behind the alternator

also this is a good read for setting up a 16v:-

setup a 16v (http://www.clubgti.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1405&PN=1)
