Picked up the GTI a day early - my wife insisted... Was quite nervous driving it out of the showroom just in case I hit something or got hit by someone else... never bought a new car before, the newest I have had is a P-Reg Mk3 GTI I sold last year - only really had Mk1's and 2 mostly. Will post pics soon.

Well done mate. Although you may have been nervous, they will quickly dissappear, until you see blue flashing lights in your rear view mirror!
Remember to run it in.

Well... what an experience. The Mk5 GTI is a phenomenon  It seems to hover on the road and just effortlessly glide in and out of corners. Absolutely amazing   I have now done 700 miles in 2 days  Had to go to Newport Wales from Ipswich on Wednesday and stayed in the Celtic Manor - a top class hotel... they had an EU Heads of State meeting there last summer and are hosting the Ryder Cup there in 2010.. anyway, point is that you get some really rich people going there - not me, my company paid  - with their equally expensive cars... I saw a yellow Lambo there, an Aston Martin DB9, Maserati and was parked next to a Porsche Carrera 4. What struck me though was when I parked up temporarily at the main entrance and checked in... Upon coming back to the GTI, it was surrounded by 3 smiling doormen looking through the windows at the mileage, looking at the alloys and the front grill and I wondered because these guys see top supercars everyday... that this interest means one thing - the Mk5 Golf GTI is class and despite the price tag, is up there with the best cars in the world.
-
Of course, the Mk2 16v is still my favourite - brings a lump to my throat remembering that Tornado Red on I had with only 57k on the clock when I sold it 2 months ago  Anyway, here are some nice pics of the Mk5:
My philosophy - start them young...

-
Nice work fella, and the Celtic Manor is pretty lush..........
Enjoy

I think Clarkson made a good point in that its a car that you know you can leave anywhere and not be damaged yet its a car that you can go to the swankiest hotel and not feel out of place pulling into the car park next to the aforementioned lambo's, astons and porcshes or this world!
-
Thats right... I was thinking of what he said when I pulled up there... As for getting your mits on 20k, when/if you find it, can you get me some too cause i'm broke

Illyun,
Is that a model of a MK5 on the first photo?
If so, where did you get it?
Thanks
P.S. Nice car BTW!!!
-
Thats a model by a company called NOREV I think. Only available in white. Smaller ones are available from VW
-
Thanks... Wardinho is right, the car is made by NOREV and was bought from ebay. They pop up there quite often and cost me about £30... saying that it is only a model for show as I found out when I let the little one play with it and she snapped off both the front mirrors after 30 minutes and I accidently ripped off the front tyre while showing her how a GTI corners  Another one is on order and this time its going straight to the mantlepiece.
-
Nice car Illyun!
I also got the NOREV white gti 1/18 for my B-Day.
They also do 1/43 in red and silver.
Cost about 20£ in Belgium, but is hard to find.
