Title: DSG rolls back

Hi everyone.

I have just returned from a multi-storey carpark & was shocked that the car rolled back! :shocked:

I was going up a level & half way up I had to stop. When I released the brake, the car started to roll back & only stopped when I applied the accelerator.

I have never had an automatic vehicle before & was under the impression that such a vehicle can only roll back if in neutral or reverse. Is this not the cases? Does this happen on your DSG box? Or do I have a problem with my car? :angry:

I have an automatic but im not telling you which car it is because all you GTI owners will bully me. Anyway, its a P reg so I dont know how relevant it is due to technological advancements etc. but in drive it always sits on the 'bite'. The force pushing the car forward id constant so if the Force pushing down the hill is greater than that pushing it up the hill it will roll back until the accelerator is applied.

P.S. I'll have a GTI MKV in 6 months, just you wait and see! :smug:

Its an automated manual box and it wont hold you until you give it some gasssssss!

Yep, you have to giving it some petrol to hold it on an uphill start I have found, I still keep my hand on the handbrake just in case!!

So I guess your comments mean that if I stop on a hill with the foot on the brake, I would need to also apply the handbrake before I release the brake, thus avoid rolling back. Is this what you mean?

Sorry for appearing ignorant, but I thought all auto's never roll back unless you are in neutral or reverse.
