Title: How to. Twin rear fogs.(with pics)
Post by: vwagain on 24 April 2006, 19:25
Tools required: 8mm spanner. Craft knife(or sharp knife with a slim blade). Small file.  And that's it!!!!

First off, undo the three 8mm nuts that hold the rear light lens on and remove the lens. You will find that the hole for the fog light has a blanking plate.

Use the knife to carefully prise down the side of the blanking plate and then, even more carefully, twist the knife until a small piece breaks away. Keep doing this until the hole is big enough to get your finger in.

Now break the rest off with your finger so you are left with the rough hole.

Now neaten the hole with the file until smooth.

Vacume any dust and debris from the hole.

Refit the light lens being careful not to over tighten the three nuts. Its a good idea to clean any dirt from around the seal first so you get a good water tight seal.

Fit a 21W bulb into the holder, refit bulb holder and that's it!!! Twin rear fogs :nerd:

Its so simple and only took me about 20 mins to do

Cheers,  Stu

Just to save money i supose.  But it seems crazy they wired the holder up to take the bulb in the first place. On most other cars i've had, the wiring isnt even there for the bulb!!!!!

When you think about the millions of Golfs they sell all over the world, only having to fit one bulb instead of two could rack up quite a saving

I remember watching a programe a few years ago about ford in america and how they started saving millions a year by not painting inside the ashtrays and using a slightly (not noticable) lower grade boot carpet and many other little touches like that. I think the whole motor industry now works by the same principle. I think it was Ford anyway!!!

I didnt do all that!

Just stuck a bulb in!

Works fine! :smug:

Dunno if my Blue lens came already with the holes cut out - didnt look!

Most modern cars only have one, something to do with that Brussels lot I think!

Yep, any after market lights will have the holes on both lights. Saves money for them cos they sell the same units all over the world and makes the lights universal. They also dont have to follow the same Brussels lot rules.
