Not in the bedroom just endless books. The rest of the house has car parts everywhere though.  ::)  The boot of our car has more tools than the AA and RAC  >:(

I don't have much at my house at the moment I was lucky enough to get a lockup to store all my spares in. I had to move it all I think Sarah would have divorced me if I had left it for any longer as I had spare parts for all my cars knocking round the house.

Post by: Blue MK2 on 02 December 2003, 17:06
is there any diffrence in Power Assisted Steering (PAS) and power steering ???
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: muppetsport on 02 December 2003, 17:25
both the same although there are different versions of PAS. one mechanical belt driven style and one electric. im not a fan of power steering really, never really liked it. totally recommend a quick rack though, got one in my nova, miles better than power steering
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: Blue MK2 on 02 December 2003, 17:36
yaeh i think PAS gives you the help when parking. Power steering gives you no feedback at the wheel? ???
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: muppetsport on 02 December 2003, 17:42
im more an old skool man, prefer less of the gadgets and toys like PAS, prefer to be more in control of my own destiny when flying round corners.

agree with it when parking, had a cav turbo, quite heavy cars wouldve been hell to park with out power steering

Dizzy did u pull the dash out of a mk3 that has an adjustable steering wheel? If so will it be easy to install this?

If i was to get a mk3 dash, what would be the most expensive price to buy one because i dont wanna get ripped off :-\
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: Dizzie on 04 December 2003, 14:57
yes it did have a height adjustable steering rack, but they reconned they could get another ?25 for it. he removed it from my support beam. After looking around all the mk3 dash swap articles I can find online I think I might need to go get that a bit quick. There's a small amount of welding to do too to get it to connect up to the mk2's pedals.

So far I've written 5 screens of my article on the swap. Just about getting the mk3 dash out and the electrics that need to be spliced between the 2 looms.

http://www.dizzie.biz/misc/mk3_dash_swap.txt (http://www.dizzie.biz/misc/mk3_dash_swap.txt) ;D
(right click on it and "save target as..." you need to view in notepad with word wrap turned on until I convert it to a webpage)
Will be updated when I start pulling out the mk2's dash. I think I've covered where I'm up to so far.

i reckon a 'how to' guide would be tops JV!!!, any other mods and things if peeps take step by step pics it would help follow vdubbers carry out similar mods!! so hows about it jV???

I've been doing all the prep work for the dash swap and adding to my 'how to' guide. Once the car is back from the bodyshop I'll empty our garage and get it in to take out the horrible square dash *cough ;D* and get started. I'll add how to take out the mk2 dash to my writeup just in case anyone doesn't know.

a godsend. little clips to hold up loom (http://www.dizzie.biz/misc/mk3dash/clips.jpg)
more clips (http://www.dizzie.biz/misc/mk3dash/clips2.jpg)
nearest the screen. (http://www.dizzie.biz/misc/mk3dash/front.jpg)

Dizzy Rascle. does the mk3 hanbreak area need mod to fit or will it go str8 on?
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: Blue MK2 on 07 December 2003, 19:35
Another thing about the mk3 dash is that the heater controls work in reverse. Cold for hot, hot for cold
Title: Re:Car parts in your bedroom?
Post by: Dizzie on 07 December 2003, 20:37
I just took the pics for the heater controls and how they hook up to the knobs (ooo err). If they do decide to work backwards I'll connect them up backwards ;D that'll fox 'em!

not sure about the handbrake yet. will find out when I put it in the car. a nice feature about the swap is there's a central ashtray for the backseat smokers. ah bliss.

just cut the diagnostics plug off the loom. no point in leaving it in there. will use the area it should go for something useful no doubt. (like my bass controller ;D)

the only problem I can see from the heater vents is them not lining up. On the mk2 there's only 3 cables for the heaters. 1 for the temp and 2 for the direction. on the mk3 there's 4 cables. the extra one shuts off the fresh air intake channel. depending on which lower section I use detirmings if that stays in or gets removed.

more coming as it happens... and back to jill in the studio.
