GPC sell these for £22?!? well they did last time i checked
-
Are you going by gpc's website gambit or did you call them up???
I only ask as I phoned Julian at gpc a couple of weeks back and he said that the website is 4 years out of date!!! Really think he should update it as I was mislead by some items on there.
-
they cant update it as they lost the passwords for the ftp site apparently (take with a grain of salt as I've only heard this 'through the VW grape vine')
-
yeah i checked there website - last time i rung about one was about 2years ago for my old 16v
-
Hmm I was hoping these would be £30 tops, £55 is a lot of cash for a sticker but then what else can you do to complete the oem look.
-
yeah but think of the size of the vinyl to start with

they are in 2 or 3 pieces. This is ok for the short term and easy to fit but after a while the edges will peel or curl.ÂÂÂ
Yeah his was in 2 pieces, you could'nt see the join. Still not peeled or curled yet. I guess they will all peel a or curl if they are not put on proprerly. Surface prep is the key :smug:

Raceboy - In the first pic of this post you can see the black vinyl decal fitted around the rear window on the tailgate of my car.
This was fitted to all GTi models as far as I know and is OEM. The part is obsolete from VW stock and has been for many years. A lot of cars have lost this either through wear and it being removed or taken off for a rear end repair/respray. Sounds like this might be the case with your car (unless it is not a GTi model.....)
Hope this helps :)
Oh i see.... yes mine is a GTI what you guys call a "Valver" but it has been repainted super bright yellow.
Why would VW want to put vinyl on there anyway? why not leave it just painted?
-
It was just part of the trim when they were made. Many people prefer the OEM look. If yours is bright yellow you obviously don't.
BTW, your car is only a valver if it has 16 of them

Thats what mine is bro, a 1.8 DOHC 16v with CIS injection and a 5speed tranny with an L.S.D.
and it was painted yellow when i bought it.

Lets keep it friendly boys....

How easy is the old one to remove?
If it is reasonably straighforward then I will happily take one of these... How can I pay you?

In Haynes, the diagram suggests that the OEM one comes in three pieces. Are you sure that the OEM one came in one piece? Perhaps such a long time on the car fused them together.
-
Definitely one piece as I bought one from GPC 4 years ago. Had it fitted a year or so back but the bodyshop (VW dealership b/shop!!!) made an a*se of it. According to the bloke they were always screwing up putting them on and they would routinely have to get another one in...obsolete now though of course...

Hi newbie here.
Can i add my name to the list please? I recently fitted a 3 piece Trimsport item costing £25,when my car was resprayed. They were recommended when i phoned GPC.It is a reasonably good effort by them and i found them very friendly and helpful to deal with. The bodyshop that fitted it told me it was a complete bar-steward to fit. They have made a bit of an a*** of it.It has creases in parts around the window rubber and has a couple of air bubbles in it.Also the joins spoil the look imho.
I may consider seeking out a bodyshop that has succesfully fitted one of these previously, especially a £55 a pop.

i'm deffo still up for it please, the beast is in for a respray at the weekend and i have a tiny bubble of rust at the bottom of the decal which means cutting it back or losing it altogether
c'mon peoples..

I'd just like to say that I ordered mine early last week and it was here by saturday. Looks top notch but I'll be able to give you some more feedback when I get it on the car.
I would recommend dealing with dscam - I've had a set of wheels off him as well. He has been very helpful and delivered quickly on both occasions.
