So, got some drilled and groved disks being fitted on friday, with mk3 callipers on the rear... should i spend the extra and go for braided hoses? what sort of difference will it make??
im really looking forward to it, as at the mo, my brakes are not that good... :(
SO, is it worth spending the £60 odd on braided hoses?
-
duno about hoses but change those hand break cables
-
Braided hoses will give you a firmer pedal, with less travel, Why... because they dont expand when you hit the brakes, like the braided rubber hoses do..
do all the flexis though! as otherwise its a waste of time and money, and change to synthetic brake fluid too!

yeah if u r gonna do it make sure u do them all, or it puts extra pressure on the ones u hvaent changed

The kits only come in 4 or 6 line packs unless you buy direct from goodridge. You need the 6 line option as you have discs on the back. you will need to replace the handbrake cables to run mk3 rear calipers as said before.
I would defiently reconmend it's something you look at at this point in the car's life. saves having to remove and bleed again if you fit them now :)
-
you might as well, the only thing is if the originals are all rusted up they might be a proper pain in the ass to get off which could mean more money spent on labour.
-
I would leave the hoses standard, as they don't really make that much difference.
-
ok.......made a big difference on my car.....
at the very least based on the above^^^ comment u can just fit and forget they wont split or anything come mot time
-
They will only make a big difference if the ones on the car are knackered.
If you are going to change them anyway then its worth putting braided on, if the ones on the car are ok then leave well alone.
-
if the metal part that attaches to the hose looks rusty as spray on some 'rost off ice' which will ease removal!

Are you up-grading your brakes for the looks, and something to talk about in the pub, or do you actually want to stop in a far shorter distance, and not to ram your mate up the arse, while approaching a roundabout at speed, because you have brake fade!
Get the brakes right, and you could actually be quicker down a country lane against a car that has more horsepower, bottom line... the difference is massive, only if you do it right

Braided hosed won't shorten the stopping distance that much, well not over new standard parts

SO that i can drive it like its meant to be driven.... also looking at some track day usage for some extra fun!

OK, so you like to play! track days are just the biz to find out what your car, and you can do! I would also consider fitting a brake bias valve as well..£60ish from Demon Tweeks, and watch your lap times drop! well worth the extra expense, and dead easy to fit, allows you to dial in the amount of pressure to the rear brakes, to almost nothing, so that your driving on your fronts only.. well almost!
