Well have my car now for 4 months now and to say i'm estatic is an understatement, anyway usually my 16V starts first time every time with no issues, she drives purrfectly until this week.
When i have the ignition on you can hear the relay intermittingly starting and stopping the fuel pump, but what i have noticed is the revcounter sporadically shoots up to 3000rpm on its own???
When driving the car at low rpm <1500 to 3000> you would think that there is a severe miss or dirt been transferred to the injection system, the car hesitates then pulls abnormally.
Once you floor it there is a bit of a delay then she flys then the delay reappears, feels like dirt in the system or timing?
I have changed the air filter, plugs checked timing etc, the only thing i can visually see it the 3 pin plug on the dizzie has parted company with the alluminium, this has been like that for 4 months and i am only seeing the problem now??
Any cures or diagnosis is appreciated

Sounds like the 'throttle stop' micro-switch is faulty or badly adjusted.
-
if the fuel pump keeps cutting out, then I'd start by checking the hall sender in the dizzy, and replacing the fuel pump relay.
-
Is there anyway of testing the microswitch and hallsender to see if either is faulty?
-
to test the micro swtich operate the throttle by hand hold revs above 2.5k rpm and press the switch closed with your other hand. if its working the diaphram should open and the revs will drop about 1krpm then lift againg. it will do this constantly for as long as u hold the switch closed
the bouncing revs you describe sounds like a duff hall sender

well the beast is now dead, it has sh!te itself with it going like a 2 cv citroen, looks like gambit and rubjohhny maybe right with the hallsender, will go 2 morrow and try and get a replacement, if not i'll beposting on here looking for a donor, if anyone has a spare dizzie it would be appreciated, cheque or paypal awaiting.

you can get a replacement hall sender from EuroCarParts on special order for about a £10
though you need to strip the actual dizzy down to fit it.
