Please Help.....Ive just bought an 8v GTi 5 door (family car) 1988 on a 'E' plate, everything is fine except the rev counter doesn't work which also means that the MPG on the MFA permanently reads 99.9 (I assume that the 2 are connected).
Is there anyway of fixing this problem or is it a case of a new Dash?

i believe this could just need the fuse taking out for a bit so it resets itself, sorry cant be much more help
-
Sorry to sound stupid but any idea what number the fuse is or where about it sits in the fuse box?Really need to buy a Haynes manual
-
sorry fella, im not sure either, sure some one else will be able to tell u soon

Have found out some info off other threads about pulling No3 fuse. Tried this but to no avail everything else works just the Rev counter, think i need to visit ebay and buy some new clocks

I was told it was fuse 3 when I lost the rev counter and M.F.A. I removed fuse 3 and no luck so I just pulled them all out one at a time and then put them back and everythings fine now, takes a while but worth it

it depends what year the car is, the early & late ones have a different fuse box. All the fuse functions are written on the rear of the fusebox cover ;)
The other thing you can do is pull the negative lead off the battery, or pull each fuse one after the other untill the clock goes off :)
The mfa reading 99.9 can also be caused by the vacuum tube on the rear of the cluster being disconnected.
