Title: 16 v problems
Post by: weedeek77 on 20 April 2006, 10:22
Hi Guys, New here, so would like to say hello..
Got a wee problem with a mates golf. 16 v 1998.
Came in with a missfire, changed the coil pack etc, no change.
So put vag com on, came up with Crank shaft angle sensor,
Sure enough, wiring all damaged there, and changed that.
Then it wouldn't start, before hand, the rev conter was all over the place, an indicator of hall sender probs, so changed the distrbuter, and still no joy.....
ut everything back to the how it was, all the old stuff back in , still no start...
Put all the new stuff back on, and hey presto... its running again....
Probelm now, is a really big miss fire at 3500 rpm.. Def electrical,, no spark..
It will rev through this.. so open to suggestions..
Neighbour did suggests setting fire to it, that way i'll get a new garage too, but not sure if the mate is up for that.. plus being a fireman, don't think my boss would be very happy either..
Hope some one can help.
Thanking you in advance
Derek

A lot of people say that trying a new ECU relay (#109?) is a good place to start when you have eleccy problems. About £11 from VAG.

Yep or the fuel injection relay E30 I think!

To check em - warm up the engine then pull out the relays and if warm to touch (against your cheek is best) then they are OK if cold change em!
