This more than likely been asked loads of times, so sorry, but....

can you do a striaght swap the larger door trim for thin 90 spec door trim? or does it require more work?

depends on the age of your car.  The really early ones have no holes down the side, but the chunky strips are clipped in place, simply unclip and clip on the small ones (after you have cleaned up the pannels & removed any red stripes obviously)

The arches requre a few rivets to be drilled out, then you swap them over.  The rear arches also have the plastic pop rivet things with the push out centres under the front edge.
