Just been reading this weeks autoexpress. Has pics of Mk6 Golf. Out in 2008.
Mk6 been brought forward to keep th Golf on top of the game.
Based on current Mk5 platform with tweaks, plus new engines and new dash and new bodyshell.
Looks realy nice. much more Audi looking.
Oh...and details of the Mk5 R36 as well. estimated to be 280-300 bhp !

I was lead to believe that this was brought forward to get costs down rather than stay on top of the game. If I remember rightly VW make next to nothing on the MKV as it's too costly to produce. THe new car is simpler in design to maximise profit but keep the good handling etc etc.
I must say the MKVI looks damn nice too.

Why do they insist on that bloody grill??!
What VWs from history had a grill like that? Audi can trace its roots back a lot further than VW, and they actually had cars with the full length grills, but VW can't...
Give it a decent grill, and stop stealing (even tho they own them) ideas from Audi, VW!

That is mentioned. Keeping "on top of the game" is in relation to the bluetooth, ipod dock, toys etc...

When I went to Wolfsburg in Feb, they even have the MK VII designed too, they said on the factory tour that all the cars are designed 10 years before production.
I also believe the R36 to be a myth, they said they were gonna do it with the MK V and then changed thier minds cause of the running costs :undecided:

i like it it looks more like a audi if that is good

There is a photo of an 'R36' in the mag, on what looks like the 'ring, but yeah, believe it when i see the VW press release.

nah i dont like that mk6, it just looks like a mk5. not that i dont like mk5's just think they should be different
-
Sorry...but WHAT is going on with the front? I think they have lost the fluidity of the front of the car....hmmmm
-
that black mark............what ever it is in autoexpress looks good on those lamborghini wheels! even it is or isnt an R36 it looks good.
Before they released the Mark 5 I heard rumours that the R32 in mark 5 shape would actually be the R36, then i heard that was for the american market then not at all!.................i believe it when i see it!!

If I remember right the 3.6 is available in the US in the Passat. The Passat B5 and the Mk5 Golf share the same platform, so It's not unlikely, I guess it just depends on if they think it wil sell in sufficent numbers.

^^ yea thats right yea its a passat lump.

Bought that Auto Express last night. I like the front of the new Mk 6, but not sure about the side view its a bit bland from the side. Rear looks good though.
The bit on the R36 had quite a lot of detail in it. Yes the 3.6 is a current engine in the Passat so its definitely around. It also said the suspension and drive train would be developed to suit that power hike!
But as the doubting Thomas's have said we will have to wait and see.

I've had the privelidge to drive a 3.6 passat... all I can say is that if that engine goes into the Golf, it will be the end all, be all of every golf evAr made. 280hp in the passat was insanely torquey and and had awesome speed to it. The new 3.6 is a lighter engine as the block is aluminum and felt just awesome to drive despite the size and bulk of the Passat. I have to expect it will be made, in the US the R32 came at the very end of the production of Mk4's; I'm going to assume Vw will release the R36 sometime around the time the MkV ceases to exist also. It is actually rumored to be arriving in the States around 2008.
Is the 3.6 available in the Uk yet?
